Member Spotlight: Elijah Selman

We interviewed new Solar Washington board member Elijah Selman about his experience in the solar field.

Solar Washington: When, how, and/or why did you become interested in solar?

Elijah Selman: My initial introduction to the solar industry came through family friends and professional connections. In my early twenties, I was looking for a career path that would be both rewarding and fulfilling, so I decided to jump headfirst into renewables...

I did extensive research, built relationships within the industry, and began selling modules as a broker to various domestic and international clients. That went well for a few years, but I was looking for something more consistent. I then moved into a Sales Management role with the largest global solar distribution company, Krannich Solar. Last year, I transitioned to the manufacturing side of the industry and joined Sol-Ark. I couldn’t be happier with my decisions and look forward to continuing this journey.

SW: Why did you join Solar Washington, and what do you expect from Solar Washington?

ES: I joined Solar Washington to contribute my time, energy, and experience to its mission and to continue advocating for solar adoption in our state. I was fortunate to attend their annual summit last year and was impressed by the member community and the quality of people serving on the board. I expect to learn as much as possible about areas of the industry outside my expertise and hope to grow as a young professional while continuing to build relationships within this community.

SW: What’s next for you regarding solar?

ES: My short-term goal for this year is to improve my business development and sales management skills. My long-term goal is to continue learning as much as I can about the industry and eventually start my own business.

SW: Can you share any lessons you’ve learned during your solar experience?

ES: The solar industry is in a constant state of change, growth, and evolution. One of the lessons I learned early on is the importance of staying hungry for new information and taking advantage of every learning opportunity available. To me, that is the fun part and what keeps me so engaged.

SW: Any advice for anyone considering solar as a career or as a source of energy in Washington?

ES:   Look to the sky. The sky is not the limit for solar, rather it knows no limits for solar!
