Clean Energy Transition Act Webinar

The Washington State Department of Commerce invites you to learn more about what is possible for community clean energy planning featuring lessons from a rural community at the upcoming webinar Community Grid Modernization and Workforce Development: Lessons from Tenino, WA.

As implementation of the Clean Energy Transition Act (CETA) starts to unfold, it is important to think about the opportunities this new work brings to the state. We encourage you to bring your questions and ideas to this online event.

The webinar will take place on Monday, Sept. 23, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Additional information on how to participate in this event will be posted on Commerce’s CETA web page. No preregistration is required.

The purpose of this event is to hear from members of the Tenino community about designs to modernize the local energy grid through the use of solar panels, lithium-ion battery storage and other methods of generating clean power, while also addressing education and workforce development in the clean energy sector.

Leveraging grants from two different Commerce programs, Tenino, with a total population of under 1,700, was recently awarded “Visionary of the Year” by the Smart Electric Power Alliance for its innovative approach to advance community involvement in the energy sector. Tenino could well serve as a model for rural communities across the state, and even the nation. This event presents an opportunity to learn more about this work and how to support similar efforts.

The Clean Energy Transformation Act, or Senate Bill 5116, establishes new planning requirements for electric utilities and sets specific standards to reduce and eventually eliminate use of fossil fuels to generate electricity for Washington customers. The law also amends the Energy Independence Act, also known as Initiative 937.

Questions about this webinar should be submitted by email to ceta@commerce.wa.gov.
